A Photo

,

I always talk with my friend Ame (who is an amazing photographer) about art and what it is that makes us love certain things more than others. I for one have no theory as to why I like things. I have never studied any history on it or have been told what is good or what I am supposed to appreciate. I just know what I like. I love this picture. It is gorgeous, simple and perfect.

Plus, I wouldn't mind having that truck.

Relaxing Times

I just stumbled upon the illustrations of Stanley Chow. I couldn't love this one of Bill Murray's character Bob in Lost in Translation more. Perfectly suited for this relaxing saturday we are having. See more here.

Friday, Again.

This week really flew by. I can't believe it's already friday again! The weather here has been rainy which makes me want to stay in and get cozy. I have been cooking a lot this week which has been really fun. I nearly killed Alex with a extra spicy red curry the other night. He graciously ate it until he couldn't take the heat anymore. So sweet. I'm hoping to convince him to go to the pumpkin patch tomorrow. I haven't actually carved a pumpkin in many years so it should be fun and very messy.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Cute.

Loving this print by Pretty Little Thieves. I'm trying to refrain from hitting the add to my cart button in the shop. I'm not sure I have that much self control though :)

Quilt

Who knew I would be such a fan of a quilt? Not me, that's for sure. I think I'm a convert now though. It was cool to see Whitney and Dustin's home featured on Design Sponge since I have been reading her blog for awhile now. Check out the full house tour here.

Need These

Awesome outerwear from Need Supply. Yes please, times three!

Larb: Thai Spicy "Beef" Salad

Alex and I are big fans of Thai food, and one of our favorite dishes we always order is Larb. Pretty strange name, but the flavors in this dish really pack a punch. I decided to try my hand at making a version using my tried, tested, and most preferred meat substitute Yves Meatless Ground. It turned out better than I could have imagined actually. I looked around for recipes and grabbed bits and pieces from two. My version went something like this:

  • 1 package of meatless ground
  • 3 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves of chopped garlic
  • 3 green onions sliced
  • 6 mint leaves, thinly sliced (for garnish)
  • cilantro (for garnish)
  • juice of two limes
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce (or use soy sauce)
  • dried chili flakes (I used about 1/2 tablespoon)
  • handful of grape tomatoes halved
  • 1 jalapeno, chopped
Saute shallots and garlic together in 2 tablespoons canola oil. Then add meatless ground. Cook 8 minutes. Set "meat" aside and wait until it cools.

When cooled add fish sauce (or soy), juice from limes, chili flakes, red and green onions, tomatoes, jalapeno and stir. Plate "meat" on bed of butter lettuce and top with mint, cilantro and garnish with lime wedges.

That's it! Really delicious and super easy to make.

Lazy Weekend

I have been in a horizontal position for the past couple days pretty much. I'm not sick at all, it's just too difficult to get up. Once I do, it's hard to get back down. Wondering what I'm talking about? My first time at boot camp class. It's no joke people! I have had the hardest time walking for the past two days. Hopefully I will be more mobile tomorrow so I can enjoy the weekend.

Enjoy yours too!

Designers At Home

I'm always interested to see how other people live, so when I came across these pictures taken from the book American Fashion Designers at Home by Rima Sugi I had to take a peek. Now I'm curious to see the other 100 designers homes featured in the book. It's also pretty cool to compare and see if their homes are reminiscent of their clothing design or completely the opposite.

Rachel Roy
Reem Acra
Johnson Hartig of Libertine
John Whitledge of Trovata

I love that he lives above a service station that is a protected landmark. Ocean views and being in the beautiful town of Laguna Beach, California make it even cooler though. I could definitely deal with that.

Two.

Happy Anniversary to us! A big shout out to my main man... You are the most patient and perfect person that I could ever imagine spanning time with. I love you.

I told our wedding photographer to take a few pics where we looked like we were on a John Denver album cover ... I think he got it right, minus the eagle of course.

All About Koo

Happy Friday!! I'm so happy it is. This week has been good... a lot of lounging and enjoying the rain, a movie, home cooked meals, a little work on my part (with some crazy clients, as well as some good ones of course) and a lot of work for the man (with lots of surfing as well). Since we have been on the go for many weekends on end we decided to make it an all Haiku weekend. That means we will be doing everything our little furry friend above loves. This does not include dog parks... she hates them. Taking long walks and seeing new things is how she rolls. I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Irina In Marie Claire

These pictures from Marie Claire of model and singer Irina Lazareanu capture a sexy yet understated rock and roll vibe to me. I think sometimes I look at the hair in editorials more than the clothes. It must be the hair stylist in me. I love her cut so much. Check out more of the pics here and the interview too.
